ITINERARY
Day 1 – Resting in Arusha – the Safari Capital of Tanzania
Welcome to Africa! Wherever you’re arrived from, once you land in Arusha, know that you’re at the safari capital of Tanzania and the perfect point to start your safari adventure. Unwind and relax from your long trip, perhaps exploring the nooks and corners of Arusha town, or resting at the lodge itself. Your next day will be a long one, and it’ll be good for you to take in all your surroundings in peace before your upcoming journey. First stop on the following day? Lake Manyara National Park – known for its sights of the lesser flamingos.
Day 2 – Flamingos, Flamingos and More
The bustling and warm town Arusha awakens you, leaving you excited for your upcoming travels. Fresh for the new day, you’ll make your way out to Lake Manyara, the ideal place to see the speckle of the pink flamingos across the skyline, as well as some other wildlife too! Lake Manyara National Park is an extraordinary sight and a nature lover’s delight to ease yourself into your upcoming wildlife experiences. Who knows, if you’re lucky you may be able to spot the elusive leopard too!
Individuals who have travelled to Africa will agree that there’s nothing like an African sunset; the burn of the red against the setting sky across the savannah plains. Let yourself view this with the utter knowledge that this is the perfect place to be, in this moment.
If this is a heart-stopping sight to witness, another is the night sky filled with stars. Imagine being able to curl up by a fire and gaze up at the stars, resting after your first day’s game drive, and preparing yourself for the following day’s trip to Ngorongoro Crater.
Day 3 – Being Witness to a UNESCO World Heritage Site – the Ngorongoro Crater
Did you ever think you’d be able to get into an extinct volcanic crater? A UNESCO World Heritage Site – the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, has much to offer in terms of wildlife. Be prepared to be blown away by your first sight of the Ngorongoro Crater, because it will be a glorious one! The crater boasts of flourishing landscapes and breathtaking sights, and as you make your way inwards by about 2,000 feet, you will be in awe by the sheer vastness of the crater area. Prepare yourself for a wildlife experience like no other and a chance to spot the big 5!
Envision yourself with the wind in your hair, driving through lush savannah plains, forests and more, keeping your eyes on the lookout for any wildlife that you can see. At every corner, you’re on the lookout for a flick of the grass, or an ear popping out signalling an animal in hiding.
The wildlife opportunity here it immense, but the landscape sights of Ngorongoro is also postcard- worthy. As you make your way back up the crater, take a look out the window as the sun descends over the crater for probably one of the most beautiful sunsets you’ll ever encounter in your life.
Day 4 – Ngorongoro Full-Day Safari
Your first full-day safari experience! After a delicious morning breakfast with a view overlooking the Ngorongoro Crater in that golden morning light, head out for your full-day safari. Here you’ll be able to witness animals from near and far, possibly a pride of lions, elephants traversing across the plain lands, the scavengers and birds of prey, plus so much more.
Let’s not forget the drive down into the crater on your descent and back up on your ascent is a breathtaking one, and we hope you enjoy this as well to the fullest, because this will be your last one for the day. Tomorrow, you head to the largest African savannah area – Serengeti National Park.
Day 5 – A Piece of History and a Piece of Serengeti
Today, it’s time to bid goodbye to Ngorongoro Crater, and make your way to the expansive Serengeti National Park. Enjoy the rush of the drive, chatting away with your friends and family, or taking a moment to yourself to reinforce all that you’ve seen over the last several days. Before you set forth onto the plain lands of Serengeti, you’ll first make a quick pit stop at Olduvai Gorge, one of the first foundations of mankind. This is a popular stopover just to stretch your legs and take in the history of where evolution first started out from. The sight of the gorge is also one that’ll catch your breath, so take it all in, knowing that this is where you need to be right now.
Serengeti National Park is another spectacle altogether. Find yourself surrounded by a vast array of animals, all curiously watching you as you pass them. Maybe you’ll spot one of the big 5, or two. Either ways, this experience will be a remarkable one because you’ve set foot into Serengeti National Park.
At the luxury tented camp, take a look out to the savannah surrounding you. Maybe the evening has turned into dusk and you can start to see the stars popping out. Maybe you’ll be able to see the glow of the sunset. Breathe into this landscape, and freshen up for a scrumptious dinner seated under the stars.
Day 6-7 – Stunning Serengeti Full Day Safaris
On these two days, you’ll be heading out for full day safaris in the Serengeti, eyes peeled to view everything there is on sight. Experience the big cats in their element, the giraffes trotting across the savannah plains, birds at every corner, antelope bounding away from the vehicle, and so much more. Imagine being able to see herds of elephants silhouetted against the sunset, or a lion out on a kill! Your experience in Serengeti will be a worthwhile one with the amount of wildlife that you’ll see.
Make the most of your time in Serengeti, because soon it’ll be time to pack up your wildlife gear and head to the beach. Zanzibar awaits you!
Day 8 – Hello Zanzibar!
It’s time to wrap up your African safari adventure and make your way to the beach! Fly out from Serengeti to Mount Kilimanjaro Airport, and then depart from there to Zanzibar International Airport. As the flight touches down to this beautiful little island, let your heart relax from the heart- racing moments of the wilderness having been left behind.
You’ll be transferred to a luxury resort by the Indian Ocean beckoning at your feet, and feel free to settle into the pace of Zanzibar as you check in and relax today.
Day 9-12 – Idyllic Beach Vibes in Zanzibar
The tropical island of Zanzibar has much to showcase over the 4 days of your visit. You can opt to idle your time away by sunbathing and relaxing by the ocean, or, if you’d like to see what Zanzibar has to offer, pick up your favourite hat and head out the door.
Opt for a walk through the fascinating architecture of Stone Town, winding alleys and warm locals bringing you closer to the culture of Zanzibar. Experience some of the best seafood there is to offer, with the night market offering you fresh seafood made right in front of you. Take a dive into the pristine aquamarine waters with your snorkelling or scuba diving gear, and take a peek at the underwater life of the Indian Ocean. Discover the spices and herbs used in traditional African medicine and in our day-to-day cooking with an enlightening Spice Tour. Witness the rare and endangered Red Colobus Monkey inhabited only in Jozani Forest on Zanzibar island. Walk over to an island converted restaurant and witness a gorgeous Zanzibar sunset with the palm trees swaying across the skies, alongside a mouth-watering meal.
Like we said, there’s much to be seen in Zanzibar. Allow yourself to be blown away by everything Zanzibar gives to you, and thoroughly enjoy these days on the island.
Day 13: Bye-Bye Zanzibar
Every good thing must come to an end, and here your luxury holiday has come to an end. But these last two weeks would have been a memorable one, and as you pack your bags, you know you’ll be back again for more. Safe travels back!
